LA FILM FESTIVAL
I'm fortunate to have a client/friend who is very senior in organising the LA Film Festival. She was in town for it and gave me several tickets to events – which is so up my alley! Two of the highlights were a documentary and the premiere/closing party. The documentary Thunder Soul is a wonderful story about some extremely poor high school jazz band members in the 1970's who against all odds won award after award. They've now poignantly regrouped. The film was shown at the outdoor Ford Amphitheatre, followed by the band members reuniting onstage and playing their original funk-jazz tunes.
The closing event was the premiere and after-party of a heartwarming animated film, Despicable Me starring Steve Carrell. I was able to hang out with Steve at the closing party; he has the longest nose of anyone I have ever seen in my entire life. Below is a picture of my friend/client with a little blow up doll we each received at the party ... mine is now residing in a chair in my sitting room in LA.
I was also able to attend lectures and numerous other related events. This was my first LA Film Festival; it was amazing in its scope and artistry and I hope I am able to repeat the experience next year!
BTW these photos were taken from my iPhone; I apologise for the poor quality of them.

LONDON ELEPHANT PARADE
Elephant Parade is a conservation campaign that shines a multi-coloured spotlight on the urgent crisis faced by the endangered Asian elephant. (www.elephantfamily.org)
The event saw over 250 painted life-size baby elephants all over central London recently. Sir David Tang OBE, Joanna Lumley, Sarah Duchess of York were amongst dozens of donors. Some of the artists contributing included Paul Smith, Alice Temperley, Diane von Furstenberg, Lulu Guinness and Matthew Williamson. Here are some photos I took (with my iPhone) of some I liked a lot.
I happen to be particularly passionate about the plight of elephants in Asia and Africa and their often merciless slaughter.

SPA REVIEW
The Humble Abode in West Hollywood
A few weeks ago I got a phone call from Nicky Miller, an esthetician I worked with many years ago. She said she felt inspired to call me: I immediately felt that we were meant to connect again.
I had gone to Nicky while she was working at a day spa called Arcona in The Valley (San Fernando Valley); Arcona had developed a unique facial designed to lift the face through several different types of rapid hand movements and unique massages. Because of travelling so much to London and the distance to drive to the spa I stopped going although I loved the process. I immediately made an appointment with Nicky at her new location in an adorable spa in West Hollywood called The Humble Abode. This charming location apparently has been growing in size consistently over the past 13 years; it's a cozy collection of interconnecting rooms in a few buildings with adorable pathways in between the buildings. Nicky's treatment – is a treat. The premise behind the facelift-facial is to help one develop a muscle memory to avoid sagging and help lift the face ... there are 55 muscles in the face, she works on them all! It was wonderful to have her expert touch again and I plan on going back soon. She also has a wide variety of other treatments as does the spa itself including peels, LED light treatment, endermologie, and massages. Check out the spa menu on www.thehumbleabode.com. I heartily recommend indulging in her unique treatment when in Hollywood / Beverly Hills.

TIPS TO HELP YOU RETHINK HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE
This tips section seems to be taking on a life of its own. I've gotten great responses from readers who love seeing the tips and have clamoured for even more, as well as people who are experts in their field wanting to contribute ... Please send me your comments ([email protected]) about the tips below as well as topics you would like to read about in future issues.
I feel that people are responding well to these bytes of information as life is constantly increasing in its hectic-factor and stress. Many people don't have the stamina, patience or emotional stability to do research or go read an entire book even if it is on a topic they very much need.
I'm excited to be adding four new tip contributors this month, on topics ranging from how to find your soul mate to feng shui to promoting yourself in public to social media. BTW I began my tips section a few months ago with a leading writing coach Mindy Gibbins-Klein, and a phenomenal esthetician/healer Debbie Thomas.
I have listed all the contributors in alphabetical order based on the person's surname. Here they are:
MASTERING SOCIAL MEDIA
WILLIAM DEBAUCHEZ
William is an extremely eclectic, interesting man. He is a part-time pilot for a large carrier, has the largest single-engine flying school in Paris, and is a leading expert in digital technology both for small/medium enterprises and home business owners. While working in Sweden for Ericsson and HP, he formed his first company, an early form of social media. Social media is changing so rapidly that virtually none of us can stay on top of all the new changes. William's tips will enable us to be more current and savvy re what is most important.
TIP #1
More than a site to just make contacts, Facebook is a place to do Business. ? I do like to contrast Facebook with eBay. When we started using eBay, we all used it to get rid of pre-loved or surplus items. Anxious that we may possibly be deceived, we were cautious to start with, then learned to believe comments, bought and sold more things. Over time, we became used to trading with professionals on eBay as we recognised the materialization of PowerSellers, the real entrepreneurs of eBay. Individuals who benefitted from eBay to make money early on, achieved themselves a place in the sun.
The equivalent will occur as people start to make money on Facebook. More and more people will turn to it to get support, information and achieve business. If you're not making money on Facebook currently, get started before others do it for you on Facebook.
Now allow me to use some descriptions to get my meaning across: Facebook is like a road (newsfeed) somewhere you see everybody walk about, you can look at them (profile), and have a chat with them (messaging). On the side of the road, there are a few cafes and shops (groups, pages), few of them concealed in the back streets or wanting detection, some of them private, open to a preferred few only, some of them significant and well established and there are billboards (facebook advertising).
What is exclusive about Facebook, if you've recognised my line of thought so far, is that this street clearly isn't there, yet the connections feel real. The road isn't your neighborhood one, it's a worldwide one, and it's the one you've selected as it's populated by the people you've put on it and accepted yourself.
The cafes and shops are the groups and pages you have shown interest to, and the billboards are the ones you've gained by discussing your areas of interest.
Cafes are becoming meeting places that have shops at the back? You get into the cafe to have a chat and then appreciate there is much more to it, you then purchase from someone you believe: the owner.
And that's what it gets down to: Becoming a famous cafe proprietor. One with a marketing strategy. When you consider it, it makes no distinction whether it's in true life or on Facebook, to make yourself recognized, you're needing to develop a brand. On Facebook, that brand is YOU.
Develop a compelling brand and you'll draw loads of individuals to your profile, and will begin to create trade. The excellent thing with Facebook, is that it's sufficient that you have something interesting to say, for individuals to come and be interested and start buying from you. To that extent, to make money on Facebook is free.
But in reality, to get an outcome for your business, you want to bring it to the next level and implement a Facebook Marketing Strategy.
The initial thing to organize is to obtain yourself a logo and a set of professional photos. This should not be expensive, you merely need to stand out from everyone who will only be consumers on Facebook.
Then, you must to have a good technical knowledge of Facebook itself. I suggest you acquire yourself a specialist training package and understand to setup your profile properly, add basic tabs and applications, include advanced applications, understand facebook networking, begin to organize your specific groups and pages and also, begin to setup a fan page, to leverage on events, how to bring it all together and develop a massive group, page or event, and finally how to apply facebook advertising.
The technique is to use your fanpage, group page, profile with a well-planned Facebook Advert that has your profile photo on it. As you will then appear everywhere, in the cafes, on billboards, and if you add value and people come to like you, they won't mind. Actually the reverse. They'll begin associating themselves to your brand and will bring more individuals to your business.
This is, in a nutshell, how to do business on Facebook.

CONNECTING WITH YOUR SOUL MATE
ARIELLE FORD
I have known Arielle since the early 1980s when she was making the rounds of bookstores with a then new author, Deepak Chopra ... I knew immediately that she was going to be big in her own right! She is not only responsible for making Deepak famous, but also the two authors of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield. As well as many more. Her book The Soulmate Secret is a best seller worldwide – because what she discusses in the book works! Arielle does seminars on creating one's perfect partner; she just did a big one in Ireland in June.
In the 1990's Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield convinced her to have her own series of books similar to the Chicken Soup books. There were six in the series, entitled Hot Chocolate for the Mystical Soul; I have stories in five of them. Arielle is an absolute master at helping people connect with their soulmates. Her husband Brian is a wonderful man and a true life partner. Arielle and Brian live and work in La Jolla, CA.
TIP #1
Here's what I know for sure: finding true love is possible for any one at any age if you're willing to prepare yourself, on all levels, to become a magnet for love.
This wonderful Universe of ours is set up to deliver the people and things we draw to us that our consistent with our personal belief system. If you don't believe you will ever find the ONE, then, guess what? You get to be right ...you probably won't.
If, however, you learn to believe that the ONE is not only out there but is ALSO LOOKING FOR YOU, then true love can be yours.
The basic Law of Attraction states that you will attract to you those things that match your state of belief.
Believing that your soul mate is out there is critical to the preparation of manifestation.
I believe that the Universe is always mirroring back to us our beliefs about ourselves and the world. If we believe the world is a loving and friendly place, then most of the time that will be our experience. But, if we believe the world is a chaotic, stressful and fearful place, then that becomes our reality. So, believing and knowing that your soul mate is out there is the most important part of the formula.
What if I told you that it's not your job to know HOW your soul mate is going to appear? What if I told you it's only your job to be ready, willing and open to love. Think about it this way: you really don't know where air comes from but you do believe that it's always there for you, right?
The same is true for love. It's there for you. It's always been there for you. You just need to remember the love that you are and once you do, the Universe will deliver to you the perfect soul mate.
Here is what worked for me and I know it can work for you: When I was in my early forties I decided to manifest my soulmate using everything I had ever learned about manifestation, psychology, spirituality, and the Law of Attraction. My intentions became crystal clear while I simultaneously cleared out the clutter in my house AND in my heart. I learned and invented techniques, rituals, visualizations and prayers that helped me prepare my body, mind, spirit and home for an amazing relationship. And they worked. I met my husband, Brian, who has exceeded all of my desires and expectations. He was and is everything I ever wished for.
Big love is possible for any one of any age if you are willing to become a magnet for love. Continue to live each day in the knowingness that you are in a loving, committed relationship as you savor the waiting for your beloved to arrive.

LEARN HOW TO WRITE FROM A MASTER
MINDY GIBBINS-KLEIN
TIP #3
Think about the bigger picture
Your book is probably at the heart of a much bigger plan. If you are writing a business book, you will also be planning a website, blogs, articles, videos, audios and public speaking. Fiction writers also need many of these items, and so do most other authors. The time to plan what you want to deliver and how it needs to turn out is before you start writing. There is a lot of talk about 're-purposing' books to create new products. Well, if you plan it well enough at the beginning, you won't have so much re-purposing to do. For example, knowing that you want to end up with 15-20 articles or blogs could inspire you to plan the book with those in mind, so that you end up with everything ready from Day One.
Push yourself to create a very detailed outline.
Most people do not outline their books well enough. They either don't know how or they don't want to go to the required effort to do it properly. Yes, it is very exciting to do the writing and see the book progress, but it will actually progress faster and more smoothly if you have created a good outline. My advice would be to go at least four levels deep with each point you are making in a chapter. That will get you to specific examples or exercises and ensure you don't leave any points hanging. In my experience, writers who invest the extra time up front on a detailed outline write their book in half the time. Their books also need less editing, saving even more time – and money, in many cases. Get help at the planning and outlining stage; it's much easier than getting editorial advice after the fact and having to redo or rearrange a lot of the content.
Be original.
This starts with being willing to share your view. And that starts with the process of deciding what you think about the key issues in your field. Take a stand on your topic. Too many people talk at a high level, avoid controversy and end up sounding like every other author or consultant in their industry. The best way to do this is ask yourself what really annoys you. What mistakes are people making that you could help them avoid? What do most of your competitors say that is just so wrong? Where can you add value? What do you know to be true, that if only people knew that, they could be happier, more successful, wealthier? The more opinionated you are, the more you will be remembered, and in a crowded market, being remembered is essential.

MASTER YOUR SPEAKING VOICE
JEREMY NICHOLAS
Jeremy Nicholas is featured on BBC London, is a Master of Ceremonies (compere), the on-air voice for West Ham football matches, author and public speaking coach/trainer. I've known him for some time now – he's hilarious, witty and erudite all-in-one.
It's becoming more and more important to talk online or in groups in order to get across your product or idea, (eg. YouTube). If you follow Jeremy's – he's sometimes known as JEM – tips you'll be amazed at how much more proficient and confident you are quickly.
TIP #1 ('JEM's Little Gems')
If you are asked to speak at an event, always stand on the stage. Don't walk into the audience.
If you are invited to a venue, to speak to an audience and there is a stage at the front of that audience.....stand on it. Do not get off it. No matter how much the room starts spinning, plant your feet firmly and command that stage.
If you get off that stage and start walking about in the audience, you have stopped being a speaker and you have become a trainer. Not that there's anything wrong with trainers. I own several pairs. They are very comfortable and supportive and make me feel like running.
I compare events, where there are many speakers across the day. I watch in horror as speaker after speaker, leaves the stage to wander among the audience. They've probably been to some session on presentation skills, where they are told it makes them appear more human, if they connect with the audience. Let me tell you, this is nonsense.
If you are on the stage people can see you better because you are in the light and you are raised up. They can hear you better because that's where the microphone works best, without feeding back on the speakers. Besides who wants to be human? No-one pays to hear a mere human speak, they want a guru.
The other week I was at an event, where six out of eight speakers left the stage during their talk. It meant the people in the front were craning their necks round to see them. The camera operators were struggling to find them in the dark. The shorter speakers might as well have been in a hole, for all we could see of them. (Yes I admit it, I'm only 5'8″, that's why I like the stage.)
You don't have to stay on the podium or behind the lectern. It's OK to move about, whatever Toastmasters tell you. But it's not OK to get off the stage. It just isn't. Not unless you are luminous, tall and have a very loud voice.
God invented stages so we could stand on them. OK maybe it wasn't actually God, but Jesus was a carpenter and he probably built a few stages for the Nazareth Speakers Association in his time. When he was talking to his followers he probably couldn't afford a stage, so he would stand on a hill. We've all heard of the Sermon on the Mount. Well we wouldn't have heard of it, if it had been the Sermon in the Hollow, because no-one would have been able to see or hear Jesus.
So the next time you are onstage talking to an audience and you are tempted to go amongst the people, please don't. It's not big and it's not clever.
I would have given individual feedback to all the so called speakers, who wandered off the stage in search of the common touch, but they wouldn't have thanked me for it. I'm not Simon Cowell. Besides, they all had more than enough feedback on the day, because they wandered too close to the loudspeakers!
PS. If all the world's a stage, where are the audience going to sit?

LAST MONTH'S GIVEAWAY
The recipients of the stunning ILA-Spa products are:
Kim Shannon, Hollywood actress (currently doing two onstage plays) will receive the travel bag with cleanser, toner, rose facial oil, a balm and facial mud.
Susan Anderson, major insurance wiz from Fargo, ND (North Dakota) is the recipient of the rainforest travel bag.
Ian MacMillan of St. Albans will receive the 3 beautiful mini-candles.
I was planning on giving out the aspects of each recipient's life that he or she would turn into a book; however I am putting them in touch with Mindy Gibbins-Klein to work with and have decided not to divulge the topics until they give me the go-ahead.
VISIT TO ILA IN THE COTSWOLDS
I was so impressed with ILS products and the treatment I had at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, that I tracked down owner Denise Leicester. After several conversations she invited me to come up to meet her and see her operations in the Cotswolds. When I was London in June I took a train to Chalbury where Denise and her husband John collected me. I spent a wonderful afternoon and evening with them, first having lunch at the Daylesford Organics headquarters, shops and restaurant and then at the ILA site close by.
The property is beautiful; it is comprised of various old renovated barns which contain every aspect of the production of these high end face and body products. I revelled in seeing the manufacturing facility, sniffing the raw products and walking around the property – where I noticed vortices everywhere.
Denise and her husband have a very interesting story of how they met – a true love story. Their high level of spiritual development is extraordinary. It was one of the nicest afternoons I have spent in a long time.

GIVEAWAY
This month I am giving away two bracelets from my brand new collection. I was inspired spiritually to create these bracelets. Many people including me do not like to wear big pieces of crystal as jewellery, yet love the energy that does come from wearing certain kinds of crystals. Each bracelet that I design is true intuition; I also spend a great deal of time energizing each bracelet and programming it for the well-being of the wearer. I add a little charm to each that is a reminder of the energy that is the crystals of that bracelet. These are now in stores in Beverly Hills and Hollywood; and soon to be in London and Sydney as well. I will create a specific bracelet for each recipient for what he or she needs most as a healing energy (yes men do wear bracelets too! If one of the recipients is a man I will create a manly-type bracelet.
In order to receive one of these bracelets please send me in one sentence what it is you are yearning to have most in life right now. The people I receive the fifth and tenth emails from will be the winners.
