Welcome to the latest round up of news and views on UFOs, alien abductions, crop circles, ghosts, the paranormal, the unexplained, the weird and the wonderful.

Ancient Aliens

History Channel (US) has now shown all the episodes in the series Ancient Aliens, conceived after the success of the eponymous one-off documentary last year. Largely based around the work of Erich von Däniken, author of books such as Chariots of the Gods?, the series explores the controversial theory that extraterrestrials with superior knowledge of science and engineering landed on Earth thousands of years ago and shared their expertise with early civilizations. I was interviewed for this series and featured in most of the episodes. Check out www.history.com for details of the series. The series is likely to be shown in the UK at a future date, but most of the episodes have already been posted on YouTube and other such sites.

Crop Circles

The 2010 crop circle season is underway. Whether one believes these patterns are made by people, extraterrestrials, Gaia or some sort of meteorological phenomenon, there's no getting away from the fact that they still excite the imagination and intrigue skeptics and believers alike. Check out Lucy Pringle's website at www.lucypringle.co.uk for more details and www.circlemakers.org for a more skeptical view from some of the people who claim to make them.

What on Earth?

Those with an interest in crop circles should check out a fascinating new documentary on the phenomenon. What on Earth? Inside the Crop Circle Mystery was made by Suzanne Taylor. Packed with interviews and stunning imagery of the crop circle formations themselves, this is a welcome addition to the body of material on the crop circle mystery. Go to www.whatonearththemovie.com for more information about the documentary and to buy the DVD.

Exopolitics Leeds

One of two big UK summer conferences coming up is being organised by Exopolitics UK and will take place in Leeds on 7th and 8th August. Speakers will include Stephen Bassett - co-ordinator of a loose and growing network of Exopolitics organisations that now cover numerous parts of the globe, Richard Dolan and Gary Heseltine and me. Check out exopolitics-leeds.co.uk for details.

Weird 10

The second big UK summer conference is Weird 10, being held in Warminster on 21st and 22nd August. I'll be speaking, as will people such as Malcolm Robinson, Philip Mantle, Andrew Collins and Ciarán O'Keeffe. Check out www.mystical-county.org.uk for details.

UFO Matrix

A new UFO magazine is being launched this summer, attempting to fill the gap left by the sad demise of titles such as UFO Data, Alien Worlds and of course UFO Magazine, edited by the late Graham Birdsall. UFO Matrix has a provisional launch date of 29th July and is part of a stable of titles run by Atlantis Healings. The editors are two stalwarts of British ufology - Philip Mantle and Malcolm Robinson. The international panel of regular columnists include Peter Robbins, Scott Corrales and Clas Svahn. I'll be writing a regular column and contributing occasional ad hoc features. This will be a newsstand magazine - always a courageous venture in the internet age - but this looks like being an exciting new project and I wish it every success. Check out www.healingsofatlantis.com for details.

Nick Pope on Tour

On a personal note, I have just finished a series of overseas speaking engagements that took me to Mexico, America, The Netherlands and Chile. Sadly, I was not able to attend an additional conference in San Marino, because of flight restrictions imposed due to the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano eruption. All of this shows that interest in UFOs, the unexplained and conspiracy theories is truly global.

Justice for the Bentwaters 81st Security Police at Rendlesham Forest 1980

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Britain's best known UFO case, the Rendlesham Forest incident. In an interesting new development, the witnesses themselves are getting together to take this case back from the ufologists and put themselves centre stage. They feel - with some justification - that they have been used as pawns in a skeptic versus believer dogfight among ufologists and that their words have often been twisted to further personal agendas. A central figure in all of this has been John Burroughs. His Back to Bentwaters blog deals with a planned reunion and now, a Facebook group entitled Justice for the Bentwaters 81st Security Police at Rendlesham Forest 1980 is taking the issue forward. The group already has nearly 2000 members.
