LADY JOAN OLIPHANT-FRASER

CONFRERIE DU SABRE D’OR
In Napoleonic Times dashing young Cavalry Officers would slice the top off the bottle with a clean cut from their golden Sabre.

Chevalier Sandi Davidson and myself were carrying on this ancient tradition with Magnums of PHILIP BRUGNON Pink Champagne, at the Annual Chevaliers’ Dinner Party at THE MANDARIN ORIENTAL HYDE PARK HOTEL, London.

If you would like to become part of this glamorous, sophisticated scene and attend some of the events that Ambassador Julian White is organizing contact him on 0207 727 0780.

The Summer Champagne Party will be held at THE MILLENNIUM GLOUCESTER HOTEL on 11th June. On l5th September, Champagne and Jazz will set the bubbles dancing and the feet twinkling, (or vice versa).

Dinner is gastronomically delightful – there are certain rules for Diners, one being, should your glass be empty then send out the International Distress Call.
The Diner inverts the empty Champagne flute on his or her own head. Waiters and Sabreurs will answer the call immediately by coming to the aid of the distressed with more Champagne.

CHEZ GERARD –119 CHANCERY LANE, London, WC2.Tel: 020 7405 0290
Between Chancery Lane and Fleet Street, around the corner from the INNS of COURT, this area is much frequented by Barristers and Journalists, many of whom find their way to this delightful Restaurant, which is more like an exclusive Club with its wood panelling and classic furniture.

A friend and myself had a delightful Dinner. We were both impressed with the excellent attentive service and quality of Cuisine. A lot of their Prime Scottish Beef comes from the Duke of Buccleuchs’ Private Estates; Lamb is Welsh and a rare breed of Pork comes all the way from Gascony, accompanied with the best Steak-Frites this side of Paris.
This year, they are celebrating 100 years of Entente Cordial, uniting France and England in goodwill and friendship.

Summer approaching and so is Party Time. How about celebrating on their Rooftop Terrace with their excellent House Champagne, Bouche Pere et Fils at £27 a bottle, accompanied with petite Steak Tartares or downstairs in the Restaurant, perhaps Queen Scallops with Girolle mushrooms and parsley and lemon butter. With a fantastic choice of superb Meats – ranging in price from £10 upwards. There is also a set Menu. £13.00 for 2 Courses, £16.75 for 3.

Geraldine and Assistant Manager Klodian will be pleased to help you with your requirements.

As THE SLENDER GOURMET, I was recently interviewed on Channel Four, on their Prime evening time Programme TO DIET FOR. THE CHAMPAGNE DIET came out Tops leaving Cabbages and Calories way behind in popularity stakes.

As THE SLENDER GOURMET I give CHEZ GERARD top Accolades.

HAPPY BUBBLES JOAN
